There are many pressing needs that face communities and people around the world.  From supporting sight, to our efforts to fight diabetes.  We build schools...hospitals...playgrounds.  We build futures.

We are dedicated to sight - and more.  In 1925, Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness."  We've heeded that call and today our primary mission is addressing vision health and promoting research for vision disease.  Recently, Lions Clubs around the world completed Campaign SightFirst II - raising over US$200 million to fight preventable blindness.

Lions Clubs also serve the unique needs of their own communities.  When driving through most towns, you will pass parks, community centres, and libraries.  Many of these would not exist if it weren't for the work of Lions.  We support young people through scholarships and sports.  We are proud of Lions Quest - our own positive youth development skill programs and we help train teachers to implement Lions Quest in their own schools.

Across our area, Lions are responsible for swimming programmes, driver reviver stations, public school vision screening, public speaking contests, road clean-ups, hospital equipment, medication, and more.  We support four area camps, Lions Camp Dorset for kidney dialysis, the CNIB Lake Joseph Centre for the Blind in MacTier, Camp Huronda for children with diabetes near Huntsville, and the Ontario Camp for the Deaf south of Parry Sound.

We try hard to be role-models and good leaders in our communities.  We don't like just writing cheques, we like to roll up our sleeves, and help.

The rewards of helping someone else are great.   We do it because we love to serve.

We do it because it takes a Lion.
